For the most part, The Fletcher School website follows punctuation, capitalization and usage guidelines outlined in the Associated Press Stylebook Online, which is available to the entire Fletcher community through the Ginn Library (password required).
Fletcher-specific style guidelines are included in the A-Z guide below.
REAL TIME – does not have a hyphen unless it is used as an adjective such as: The webcast will take place in real time; the real-time webcast.
REGIONS – In general capitalize North, South, East, West, etc., when they designate regions. Lowercase when they indicate compass directions: He drove west. The North was victorious. She has a Southern accent.
ROOM – Capitalize before a room number, but do not capitalize specific room names such as atrium, rotunda, etc: Prefix the name of buildings or blocks to room numbers while referring to those at The Fletcher School: The class is in Room 212 of Eaton Hall; The lecture is scheduled to take place today in Cabot 205.
R.S.V.P. - Use uppercase letters with periods for this abbreviation of the French phrase respondez s’il vous plait (= respond if you please, please reply)
