Wendin D. Smith currently supports nuclear energy and nonproliferation programs at the Scitor Corporation. Dr. Smith also serves as the President of Octant Associates, LLC, which works with public and private sector clients on international nuclear energy and threat reduction programs. Previously, Dr. Smith was engaged in nonproliferation and cooperative threat reduction programs for the U.S. Departments of Energy (DOE) and Defense (DoD), including for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s Biological Threat Reduction and Strategic Offensive Arms Elimination programs, as well as for several of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s initiatives. Dr. Smith also owned and managed Akhaltekin Consulting, LLC, which supported clients in energy security, nuclear energy, as well as nonproliferation and arms control. In the mid- and late-1990s, while based in Moscow, Russia, Dr. Smith served as Director of the U.S. Information Agency’s (USIA/USIS) American Center, and supported educational exchange programs under the Freedom Support Act. Dr. Smith received her Ph.D. and Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, where she focused on International Security Studies and International Environment and Resource Policy.
