On a favorite class: I was fortunate to attend the admitted students’ open house before starting at Fletcher, where I discovered what would soon be one of my favorite classes: Professor Sung Yoon Lee’s U.S.-East Asia Relations Since 1945. I decided to preview the class during my visit, and discovered a room filled with people who shared similar interests in the region fully engaged in a discussion on understanding the nuances of the topic by closely examining current events through a historical lens. I enrolled in the class my first semester. I learned to look at international issues beyond the way they are presented in the media and to use history to think critically about the present. Professor Lee’s willingness to discuss topics of interest during class and in office hours further developed my knowledge of issues in the region.

On Career Services: The Office of Career Services has been tremendously helpful throughout my summer internship search and application process for professional opportunities. I am convinced that I would not have been able to interview confidently for my summer internship were it not for prepping with OCS. And even when I was concerned about the results of the interview, OCS staff continued to provide me with encouragement. Once I got the offer, OCS made it possible to pursue my desire to intern abroad by awarding me with funding to cover the cost of travel. OCS also supports professional development by keeping students informed of prospective internships, fellowships, career panels, and workshops. I have benefited from several info sessions and learned of opportunities I would not have known about otherwise.
