Assistant Legal Counsel, Permanent Court of Arbitration - The Hague, Netherlands

Why the LLM? While choosing a graduate program, I was mainly looking for two things: a school that focuses on International Law and Affairs, and a program that would allow me to be part of a small and intimate classroom. While Fletcher was an obvious choice for the International Law Program, I was really attracted to the idea of only having 14-20 people in my LLM class (which is currently the case!). After going through law school with hundreds of other students (which was definitely an interesting and necessary experience), I thought I would benefit more from being part of a smaller, self-selected group of international lawyers. I felt this would facilitate more personal interaction with faculty members, and enable me to learn within a more comfortable and intimate space.

On the diversity of the Fletcher community: For me, a quintessential Fletcher moment is asking someone where they are from, and then watching them navigate internal havoc to come up with a simple, timely answer. Quite often, you meet people who were born in Country A but grew up in Countries B, C, and D. Their parents are from countries E and F respectively, met in Country G, and finally gave birth to them in said Country A! How could they possibly sum that up in one word?
