Why I chose Fletcher: My undergraduate training was focused on economic development with special attention to sustainability and outreach in microfinance institutions. After graduation, I ventured out into a completely different field – economic consulting - where I worked on anti-trust litigation cases from the energy industry. It was clear to me that my career would benefit the most from a graduate program that offers an interdisciplinary and flexible curriculum. Fletcher was the perfect blend where I could train in international policy for sustainable development using business models. Furthermore, the strong sense of community at Fletcher was a real draw for me – I knew I had not made a mistake when a second year Fletcherite I met during the Open House not only recognized me, but remembered my name!

How Fletcher has broadened my global perspective: The student body is very diverse in terms of nationality and life experiences. The strikingly communal atmosphere of the school allows for close interactions and the classes provide a good platform for the exchange of ideas. For example, in my development class, the development experiences in a Latin American economy were contrasted with experiences in Africa by people who had actually worked in or were from those parts of the world.
