How has the Fletcher alumni network been helpful to you? Fletcher alums have always been happy to talk with me when I email with job hunt-related inquiries.

On Career Services: In many graduate schools, the job hunt seems to be an afterthought. At Fletcher, it’s integrated into the curriculum: Fletcher requires that all first-year students take a half-semester Professional Development Program (PDP), in which they polish their resumes, practice “elevator pitches”, learn about the public and private sectors, and examine how interests and abilities play into career choices. Despite being at 9 a.m. on Fridays (cruel!), PDP is, I think, one of Fletcher’s great attributes.  Students emerge prepared to tackle the job market in this economy.

Something that has surprised me about Fletcher: One surprising thing about Fletcher is how wide-ranging the student body is. My classmates not only came from all over the globe, but also from every imaginable professional background, from non-profit management to the air force. They were lawyers, diplomats-in-training, bankers, environmental crusaders, and then there was me—an English major and travel editor, of all things. This diversity made for dynamic debates in class and fascinating conversations outside of it.
