Daiki Tajima, 2018, Japan

What brought me to Fletcher: "International development through business has consistently been my personal interest, and that brought me to Fletcher's MIB program. Before joining Fletcher, I worked for an Indian consulting firm called Corporate Catalyst India (CCI), where I liaised between Japanese customers and Indian staff inside the company. I was also selected as an official coordinator for a Japanese government related organization, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), where I promoted business matching between Indian SMEs and Japanese SMEs. Based on those experiences, I felt that I would like to study both international business and international development. I was initially researching some three year dual degree programs that combined a traditional MBA with public policy/international affairs. I had a Skype meeting with a Fletcher alumnus, who is now working in the African Development Bank, and this encouraged me to learn more about Fletcher. Then I finally found the MIB program -  a perfect fit for me to pursue my academic interest of international development through business within two years."

The commitment to social business: "I have been surprised by the number of opportunities and events that appealed specifically to my personal interest in international development through business. One of my favorite events featured a guest speaker, Mr. David Young, Senior Partner & Managing Director, Social Impact of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). I was excited to learn from him how NGOs could enhance their efficiency by using the knowledge and experiences of the business field. Fletcher also organizes Fletcher D-Prize: Poverty Solutions Venture Competition, which provides the winner with up to USD $20,000 to pilot a new venture in a developing country. I was impressed that Fletcher encourages student entrepreneurship and the past winners’ projects are growing rapidly. Fletcher provides various classes, events, competitions, boot camps, and clubs which stimulate me, and I feel that every single moment is very precious for me during this high speed adventure."
