Why the LLM?  I chose Fletcher mainly for the sheer interdisciplinary nature of its graduate programs. Where else could I study international trade law, design and monitoring of peace-building programs and market approaches to development in the same semester? Most of the other LLM programs I was looking at offered linear streams like corporate law or international law which offered well-trodden pathways to traditional legal careers. However, given how rapidly the world is changing and the complex nature of the problems we have ahead of us, I was certain that besides a nuanced legal perspective, I needed an inter-disciplinary education that would train me to evaluate issues from a 360 degree perspective. This is exactly what Fletcher offered. The diverse and highly fascinating range of courses taught by some of the leading professionals in their fields left me astonished. Here was a program where I could pick an interesting mix of courses drawn from the fields of international law, business, international relations and political economy, satisfy my academic yearnings and sharpen my competitive edge. After speaking to a few alumni, I was convinced that this was the right program for me.

On the diversity of Fletcher: Fletcher boasts of one of the most diverse student body among graduate schools in the United States. Over 40% of its student body is international. Because of this reason, there is never a dull moment here. In an ordinary day, you could see yourself go from practicing your Japanese with your colleagues from Japan, to attending a talk on the Middle East at the Fares Center to shimmying to salsa at Havana, the local Latino club frequented by Fletcher students. Most regions are well-represented and usually have a club or two associated with them. These clubs organize the famous nights such as the Africana night and the Asia night which are great social events to enjoy the culture, food and dance of these regions. Add to this the countless opportunities to try delicious cuisine from all over the world if you live in Blakeley! All of these make for an astounding experience here at Fletcher.
