Daniel Robinson, 2017 (dual degree), United States

Why Map Your Future and The Friedman School? I chose to study at The Fletcher School for a variety of reasons, but most of all because of the opportunity to personalize my academic plan. In particular, the MALD program has allowed me to create a unique specialization in development economics and agricultural development, as well as take coursework related to many other international issues. Fletcher's connection with the larger Tufts community has also been an integral part of my academic experience, as I have been able to combine my Fletcher studies with the Food Policy & Applied Nutrition program at Tufts' Friedman School. In addition to the academic environment at Tufts, the Map Your Future program was an important factor in my decision to study at Fletcher. By confirming my future place at Fletcher as a college senior, I was able to enter the workforce with a clear long-term plan. During two years in the U.S. and Ghana, I worked on a wide range of agricultural development programs, and became all the more certain that Fletcher would be the perfect place to continue building my career.

On the variety of the curriculum: It's very hard to pick a single Fletcher class as my favorite. Thanks to the flexible academic curriculum, I've been able to take courses both within my fields of agricultural development and economics, as well as on unrelated but equally fascinating international topics such as negotiation theory and trade law. Whether they require analysis of the pros and cons of agricultural policy, or consider negotiations over optimal oil prices, my classes at Fletcher have never failed to make me think and teach me more about the world.
