Why the LLM at Fletcher? I chose Fletcher because of the community, the coursework, and the approach to problem solving. Rather than being surrounded exclusively by lawyers, my classmates have backgrounds in diplomacy, civil society, business, and government. Hearing these perspectives in class and during small group work gives me well-rounded viewpoints that complement by own legal background and ensure that I minimize my blind spots in both academics and experience. Fletcher's LLM program provides me with a strong foundation in theory, but also provides in-depth learning about the concrete application of these principles in the world. The faculty are not only academics but practitioners who can draw from real world experiences to illustrate their points. Fletcher's approach to confronting issues of law and diplomacy is holistic. There is nothing piecemeal here! Instead, coursework, discussions, and everyday thought focus on an inclusive approach that incorporates all aspects of a challenge. That's the education I wanted! Holistic and comprehensive.

On the Fletcher Community: The LLM students here came together as a cohesive family quickly and completely. In a few short days, we were texting each other regularly and socializing as often as possible. I invited the group to my home for dinner. As we sat at the table, I looked around the room and realized that Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Italy, Australia, India, and the U.S. were sharing a meal, laughing together, and talking about everything. Where else does this happen with such sincerity and regularity? We will be professional colleagues and friends throughout the rest of our careers. That's tough to replicate or replace.
