On selecting Fletcher: In order to develop my skills as part of the Army’s Advanced Strategic Planning and Policy Program, I was looking for a multi-disciplinary approach to doctoral studies that would reinforce my active-duty experiences with a firm academic base. The Fletcher School’s approach to building your curriculum was very attractive to me. It allowed me to integrate a wide range of topics rooted in firm academic groundings, something I knew I needed for when I would to go back out into the military as a practitioner. I looked at about a dozen schools with fantastic international relations programs, but none could match the Fletcher’s flexibility and incredible faculty. Additionally, both the admissions staff and the faculty were incredibly responsive to my requests for information and the barrage of questions I had. Their responses and willingness to take the time to speak with me personally about my admissions concerns also had a huge impact on my decision to attend Fletcher.
On the diversity of the community:
We live in a diverse world that only continues to grow more interconnected. My 20 years of serving around the world taught me the importance of understanding diversity. The students and faculty of Fletcher represent the best there is in diversity. With students from over 70 countries represented at The Fletcher School, I am constantly amazed at how much I learn from my fellow students on a daily basis. The faculty of Fletcher also embraces the diversity of the student population and actively integrates those experiences into their classrooms. As a result, I learn just as much from talking to my peers outside the classroom as I do from the faculty inside the class. This multicultural mix has been one the most enjoyable aspects about my time thus far at The Fletcher School
