Cory Felder, 2016, United States

On the classroom experience: This semester, I opted to take “Social Networks in Organizations” with Professor Rusty Tunnard. It’s an excellent course that weaves together the historical, technical, and analytical components of social networks and encourages students to consider how these networks can be harnessed to improve performance in organizations. I’ve been impressed with the thought and care that Professor Tunnard puts into each class as well as his responsiveness to our needs and interests. I’m also taking “Development Economics: Policy Analysis” with Professor Julie Schaffner, who puts also puts considerable thought into each class. She supplements course material with instructional videos, has hosted outside meetings for us to discuss project ideas, and, like Professor Tunnard, she responds quickly to questions or suggestions about what might improve our experience and learning.

On career services: Fletcher’s career services are, in a word, impressive. The Professional Development Program offers students a basic but practical set of issues to consider when presenting themselves to employers or contacts, and the Office of Career Services (OCS) staff is readily available to help on an individual basis as well. In an environment where many of us are anxious about finding summer internships and jobs, it’s extremely helpful to receive constructive feedback and guidance from professionals who genuinely care about students’ success.
