Why Fletcher: Fletcher's interdisciplinary approach, mix of professional and academic experience among the faculty, and incredible variety of backgrounds among the students made it by far the best choice for a student hoping to take a non-traditional approach to security. Also, Fletcher's community feeling is amazing.

On the flexibility: The flexibility of the curriculum is key for those looking to take an inter-disciplinary approach to their studies. Very few schools have Fletcher's breadth of classes, which(along with the ability to easily take classes at other area schools) allows students to truly pursue their idiosyncratic interests in depth. If your studies take you in a new direction while here, which is fairly common, you can explore those interests within the program.

On campus life: At Fletcher, campus life is diverse and busy enough that you never, never, need to be bored or feel boxed into a corner of the curriculum. In a single day, I once attended a talk about micro-finance in sub-Saharan Africa, another about space policy in the US, a Diwali celebration, and informal drinks with representatives of 5 different militaries. All of these were student-organized, and this was not even an especially unusual day.
