Why I chose Fletcher: Upon graduating form law school, I worked on environmental issues, first with the private sector, and then in the Economic, Social and Environmental Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. While I was there, I gained relevant experience in international environmental affairs, especially in biodiversity agreements, and negotiations in sustainable development. During my time at the Foreign Ministry, I realized that greater economic skills and development knowledge would help me better gauge pressing social and environmental issues, and to evaluate at environmental challenges from more creative angles. I chose Fletcher because I realized its curriculum would allow me to take advantage of advanced coursework on environmental matters, while simultaneously acquiring the hard skills I would need to fully comprehend and work on environment, development, and other areas that interest me, such as behavioral economics and unsustainable consumption and production patterns.
On the flexibility at Fletcher: Thanks to Fletcher's flexible curriculum, I am able to take courses in areas that I am more comfortable with and interested in delving deeper into, while simultaneously gaining exposure to economic concepts and statistics. In the following semesters, I look forward to researching and evaluating the relationship between the issues I am most interested in, and other fields such as demography, psychology, and sociology. I am excited to take advantage of Fletcher's relationship with other graduate schools at Tufts and beyond, in order to make my academic experience truly interdisciplinary.
