Why I chose Fletcher: One of my favorite things about Fletcher is its commitment to interdisciplinary studies. While at Fletcher, I can utilize their close relationship with the Feinstein International Center and the Friedman School of Nutrition to broaden and deepen my knowledge of pressing humanitarian issues. Having access to these centers' staff and research builds a stronger foundation for the work I will be doing after I graduate. I have particularly enjoyed the hands-on experience I gained through my Humanitarian Studies in the Field course taught by Peter Walker, a key figure in the development of the SPHERE Humanitarian Standards. I am particularly looking forward to the weekend-long disaster simulation where I will get to put my skills to use.
Something that has surprised me about Fletcher: The thing that surprised me most about Fletcher is just how many opportunities and resources are available. Fletcher is always so busy - in a good way. With our research centers, lecture series, and our club activities, there is never a dull moment. Likewise, the alumni connections and internship panels keep us thinking about what's next. But perhaps the most surprising resource has been my peers, who themselves continually challenge and impress me.
