Jeffrey Bacon, United States

Why I chose Fletcher: The Fletcher School has a great reputation in and around D.C. where I was working. Additionally, the strength of the security fellows program encouraged me that someone with my background and research interests would fit in well. Those factors and the fact that my family loves the greater Boston area led me to visit during the admissions process. The visit included interviews with an admissions ambassador and key faculty from the International Security Studies program. Everyone was so welcoming, professional, and personal that I left with a very positive impression.  As I continued the admissions process with other schools, I continually compared them to my experiences and interactions with Fletcher.

On the classroom experience: Even my largest class at Fletcher feels small, and participation is encouraged. My favorite class is Crisis Management and Complex Emergencies with Professor Pfaltzgraff. He's been a cornerstone of the International Security Studies program since it's founding in 1971 and still teaches with passion and energy.
