Fletcher Update Regarding Hurricane Irene

Dear Members of the Fletcher Community,

We have been in close consultation with Tufts  University’s Emergency Management Group which, in turn, has been in close touch with national, state, and local authorities monitoring Hurricane Irene.

At this time, it appears that the storm will have passed through the local area by Monday morning (August 29).
Accordingly, it will be “business as usual” on the Tufts main campus on Monday morning.  Most importantly, this means that our Orientation program for incoming Fletcher students will begin as scheduled  at 8am with distribution of materials and a continental breakfast and formal sessions will start at 9am.

We understand that some of our new students will be delayed in arriving given travel disruptions due to the hurricane. If you are an incoming student whose arrival will be delayed, please inform the registrar’s office and let us know your best estimate of your date of arrival:

There is, of course, always the possibility that current projections are incorrect and that over this weekend, the storm situation may change and we may need to alter our plans for Monday.  If plans change, we will notify the community (a) by email and (b) post notices on the Fletcher website—both the Fletcher home page and the Fletcher orientation website.

In addition, university wide updates on the storm and university operations may be found at:
  • 617-627-INFO (617-627-4636)—the university’s weather  information phone number

I hope you all have a safe weekend.  And we look forward to welcoming our new students on a sunny Monday morning.
