Why I chose Fletcher: I had been looking into traditional MBA programs for the last four years, but something kept holding me back from actually applying. I wasn't convinced that they would be the right fit for me. I worked in the private sector and enjoyed my job, but at the same time, wanted to do more work in the social development and nation building fields. I wanted to be more hands on in doing my bit to help "save the world". After meeting a Fletcher alumnus and hearing his stories about Fletcher, the curriculum, and the faculty, I went onto the schools website and discovered the MIB program. At that moment everything fell into place. I found a program where I could work on my business fundamentals, but explore the many different disciplines in the world of international affairs that would give me access to a broad range of career opportunities and allow me to play a more active role in Africa’s development.

Something that has surprised me about Fletcher: While most of us come here with a pretty clear idea of what we want to study and do post Fletcher, the courses offered are all so diverse and fascinating, that you find yourself questioning your original study objectives. The surprising thing for me has been that Fletcher fully expected that. They want us to try out different things, and the academic advisors and the faculty (including the most senior faculty), are very patient with us. They encourage us to set up time with them to explore our career interests and discuss how their various courses could be relevant to our journeys. The Office of Career Services is also fully engaged in the exploratory journey with us. It is great to know that we will get all the support needed to make the right choices and, by the time we graduate, will be well on our way to "saving the world" in some way.
