On a quintessential Fletcher Moment: I was amazed
when I realized how global my living situation was. I
lived in the ‘Green House’ - an unofficial off-campus Fletcher house. Between my six roommates and I, we represented 4 continents, 8 countries,
speak 12 languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German,
Hungarian, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, and Thai)
and had worked in all sectors of the economy (private, public and
nonprofit). My house only represents 7 Fletcher students. I can't
imagine how long it would take me to describe my whole class, never
mind the school! The experience was amazing and the food
very delicious!
How my experience at Fletcher has changed the way I look at the world:
Having always focused my studies in the region of Latin American left
me little time to learn more about any other countries/regions of the
world. At Fletcher, I had the opportunity to learn more in depth about
other countries and regions not only in the classroom but through the many
other events offered. The various centers on campus offer
informative lectures throughout the year and the student organizations
offer an array of learning opportunities. My favorites were the
traditional culture nights (Africana, Asian, Mediterranean and Latin
Fiesta), in which students wear fantastic outfits, perform spectacular
dances and skits, play music, and provide traditional cuisine.
