On the classroom experience: Even having been at Fletcher for a short time, I have already realized that a very large component of Fletcher coursework is based on collaboration. Outside the classroom, student-run organizations like FSIG allow you to work alongside your peers for real clients and gain practical experience, while still being a student! I am a strong advocate for teamwork because I think that it provides a more comparable counterfactual to the "real world." We all know that problem solving can be a daunting and insurmountable task, and almost impossible to do alone! Working with different people allows us to bring different perspectives and approaches to the table and teaches us valuable skills in team dynamics and conflict negotiation. Fletcher provides an ideal environment to do just that.

On the alumni network: I learned about Fletcher through a coworker, who also happens to be a Fletcher Alumna. She invited me to her housewarming party where I was promptly ambushed by several more of the Nairobi - Fletcher “Mafia.” I spent the evening listening to stories about the school, the traditions like the Fletcher Follies, and the variety of courses offered. The next day, I received an email from my colleague with a link to the Fletcher application, along with the subject line "APPLY NOW!"
