Why Fletcher: I chose Fletcher to fill in the gaps of the practical side of Human Security and Development in International Relations. Throughout my undergraduate studies in Political Science and International Relations, I took courses that for the most part covered the theoretical aspect of International Politics. Although theories are vital in understanding and explaining the practices, I wanted to take a step toward the practical approach to addressing global issues. While searching for various graduate programs with interdisciplinary studies, I discovered that Fletcher would assist me in gaining practical knowledge that will help me develop professionally. I am looking forward to my studies and life at Fletcher.

On the diversity of the Fletcher community: Although I was aware of how diverse the Fletcher community is, it surprised me once again when I arrived here. It is amazing to have students from about 80 different countries, sharing multifarious perspectives on global issues both inside and outside of class. One of the most interesting people I met at Fletcher was a student from Burma (Myanmar). Having an opportunity to converse with a student from Burma after participating in conferences and research on the human rights issues of Burma and its democratization is something that is possible at Fletcher. To me, the Fletcher building is like a compact version of the world. The tight community among students and faculty is one of the reasons why I chose Fletcher. It provides an exceptional environment to learn from students of diverse backgrounds.
