Why I chose Fletcher: When I was admitted to Fletcher, I was debating between a couple other schools which seemed quite similar to me from their websites. As I didn’t have a chance to visit campus before making my decision, I relied on the Japanese alumni from each school. Alumni from Fletcher organized an informal reception for admitted students. It was just after the earthquake and tsunami in March, and they were still able to have this great event. The alumni I met at the reception were amazing! Even those who graduated many years ago joined the event, and I felt the bond of Fletcher's strong community and long-lasting friendships. Of course, Fletcher's flexible curriculum, rigorous academics and student diversity were also appealing as well. Now that I'm here in Boston, I'm sure that I made the right decision.
On the flexibility of the curriculum: I am very satisfied with Fletcher's flexible curriculum as it allows me to pursue both of my areas of interest simultaneously. Ever since I was an undergraduate, I wanted to dive deeper into the study of economics, and the Development Economics field is perfect for me. While at Fletcher, I would also like to build upon my experience in the private sector and focus in International Business Relations. Post-Fletcher, I would like to work in either multilateral organizations or the private sector focusing on social businesses. To acquire the skills and knowledge about both international development and business is necessary for me, and I am able to blend those areas nicely at Fletcher.
