On the classroom experience: I never realized that
classes can be so interactive! Role-playing as an under resourced and
unarmed peacekeeper in a buffer zone, or video-conferencing with an
alumna in Afghanistan, have become integral parts of my curriculum.
Yes, we still have a lot of work and spend long hours in the library,
but this approach helps us put our knowledge into perspective and test
our assumptions. We learn to better understand and appreciate the
myriad of ideas and values people have when dealing with real-life
situations. Coupled with faculty often coming from the field, but still
perfectly versed in theory, education at Fletcher goes well beyond
books and classrooms.
My plans for my international life after Fletcher:
Building on my experience in the field of international justice, at
Fletcher I seek to gain a broader picture of conflicts. I am interested
in their origins and theoretical models and practical approaches needed
to deal with them. Whether it's through an international organization,
a think-tank or government service, I see myself working to ensure
effective prevention and holistic response to conflicts.
