Why I chose Fletcher: If I could use one word to
describe why I chose Fletcher, it would be “globalization”. I believe
that the world today, and its most pressing issues, is more
interconnected than ever. From conflicts in the Middle East and the
economic recession, to global warming and security, the solutions to
the world’s problems will come from those with a real understanding of
globalization and the myriad forces underpinning it. This is why I
chose Fletcher. I consider the MALD degree to be a true international
relations program. The curriculum is designed to help you navigate a
complex, globalized world by providing you with a platform to put all
your exciting ideas into an analytical framework. For example, I know
of no other international relations program that has both the scope and
the quality of the MALD, one that combines history, philosophy, law,
business, contemporary politics, political theory and economics. These
are the tools that Fletcher gives you to develop solutions to some of
the world’s most pressing issues.
Something that has surprised me about Fletcher:
I would say the biggest surprise has been the number of
extra-curricular activities available. I knew the degree by itself
would be challenging, but I am now involved in so many extracurricular
activities, it sometimes feels as though the only free time I have is
to sleep! But that’s exactly how I like it. I enjoy having my days
filled and having lots to do. Since coming to Fletcher I have joined
societies such as the UN club, Business club, Latin American and
Mediterranean Societies as well as a Global Markets Roundtable. I have
also joined Fletcher Futbol, the Fletcher soccer team. We play in a
league against other universities and our games give me a couple of
hours every week to let my hair down.
