Why I chose Fletcher: I chose Fletcher because of the strong alumni network in my fields of interest. When it came time to make my final decision concerning where to study, I simply compared the career paths and professional achievements of the Fletcher alumni to those of other schools and found that those who I wanted to emulate studied at Fletcher. Recent Fletcher graduates are making significant impacts in their career fields and those of previous years have risen to the highest levels of government, the military and the private sector.
On the flexibility of the curriculum: Unlike other mid-career programs, the Fletcher MA program truly allows the mid-career professional the opportunity to focus solely on your personal educational goals instead of making you fit into an academic mold. I have a strong interest in maritime studies, something not offered in other international relations programs, and I have tailored my curriculum around this unique area of study. I have been able to meet my breadth requirements with courses that open my mind to new concepts and cultures, but also connect back to my maritime interests as I work towards completing my thesis.
