Why I chose Fletcher: The Fletcher School's stellar reputation in International Relations is known the world over and is the main reason the school is so attractive to such a diverse group of individuals. The leaders of tomorrow meet here, and will forge relationships that will continue to bear fruit in the decades to come. Coupled with a demanding academic environment, Fletcher ensures that students learn not only in the classroom setting, but from each other as well. In today’s world, where boundaries and relationships between countries are blurred at an ever-increasing rate, where those who would seek to represent their nations on the world stage are required to be knowledgeable in international relations, it is incumbent upon us to attain the highest quality education possible. Global partnerships are not just an option; they are becoming a required ingredient in the recipe for success for any organization. Our nation’s armed forces are not unlike an international business, engaged in conflicts around the globe. As a result of prolonged immersion in these operations, our military has been forced to change the way it thinks and the way it approaches and solves both conventional and unconventional problems. I am a professional military officer, and the skills of conflict resolution, crisis management, and cultural awareness that I will sharpen at Fletcher will make me a well-rounded leader.
How my experience at Fletcher has changed the way I look at the world: It is essential in today’s world for a corps of professional military officers to have a solid understanding of international relations, foreign policy, and diplomacy. It is no longer sufficient to be merely an expert in your lane. Fletcher’s effort to provide a program that enables students to fully understand and appreciate the complexities of the world that surrounds us is invaluable. I have learned much about my classmates, many of whom have accomplished much in their lives. It is their life experiences that provide the rich base of knowledge that Fletcher in turn builds upon. The courses offered here are second to none, bringing unrivaled instruction in International Relations. My time here has truly been enlightening.
