Lars Ragnar Aalerud Hansen, 2014, Norway

Why the MA: I was looking for a mid-career program in international affairs, and Fletcher was recommended to me by colleagues and alumni. The flexibility of the curriculum allows me to focus my learning experience on the topics that interest me the most. The incredible mix of talented people in the student body also makes for a learning experience in itself, and it makes for a lot of fun. Fletcher also allows students to take courses at Harvard University as well, which allows me to tap into the resources of the unique academic community in the Boston area.

On the classroom expeience: At Fletcher, my learning experience is very much shaped by the people around me. Whatever topic you discuss, someone often intervenes saying "I was there." Bringing together so many perspectives and practical experiences has a huge impact and ensures that the discussion in the classroom is always connected to real-world experience. And it always reminds me that in the end, it is all about people.
