Almaz Baishygashev, 2013, Kazakhstan

On the diversity at Fletcher: Prior to coming to Fletcher, I’d heard of its diversity, but I never imagined it would be so amazing. During the first month, I had the pleasure of getting acquainted with brilliant people from almost all corners of the globe. At Fletcher, I found fellow diplomats, NGO activists, teachers, businesspeople, journalists, and students from many other professions. All Fletcher students have exceptional hands-on experience, and the great desire to make a difference in the world.  It was also surprising to meet students who worked in my country and, to my great admiration, fluently spoke the Kazakh language (in addition to several other tongues).

On the future: After graduation from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, I am planning to continue my career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. I believe that the knowledge and skills I obtain from Fletcher will increase my ability to understand the state of global affairs and help my country in making decisions, both domestically and internationally.
