Dr. Karen Donfried (F88, F91) Appointed President of the German Marshall Fund

One of US President Barack Obama‘s top advisors on Europe has been chosen to head the German Marshall Fund, the transatlantic organization announced Thursday.

Karen Donfried, [alumna of The Fletcher School, Tufts University] who currently serves as the special assistant to the president and senior director for European affairs on the National Security Council, will become president of the German Marshall Fund in April.

Donfried will replace Craig Kennedy, who is retiring after 19 years as president of the fund.

The German Marshall Fund was founded in 1972 as a non-partisan, non-profit organization through a gift from Germany, in recognition of Marshall Plan assistance provided by the United States after World War II.
