Director and Strategy Practice co-leader, Bill Huyett will share his insights on emerging market trends in business asset ownership, drawing on his 16 years of strategy consulting experience with McKinsey. Executive Biography

Mr. Huyett is a director at McKinsey and Company, Inc. Based in Boston, he has been part of McKinsey’s Zurich and Washington, D.C. offices during his 16 years with the Firm. He serves European and US-based clients, primarily in the pharmaceutical, biotech, medical products and healthcare payor/provider sectors. His work focuses on corporate strategy, product development and commercialization and corporate leadership. His interests include:

  • Innovation in approaches to pharmaceutical commercialization and marketing,
  • CEO leadership and organization design at critical junctures (e.g. mergers, initial public offerings)
  • Transatlantic performance
  • How to deliver organization performance outside ones home continent
  • Biopharma industry evolution, including mergers, licensing and vertical disaggregation and their impact on competitive conduct
  • Comparative development of healthcare systems in Asia, Europe and North America.

Mr. Huyett co-leads McKinsey’s strategy practice, which is responsible for applied research in the areas of business unit strategy, corporate strategy and microeconomics. His primary interests here are in corporate strategy and capital markets. He serves on the boards of the Marine Biological Laboratory, the Greater Boston YMCA and the Concord Museum.

Prior to joining McKinsey, Mr. Huyett held a variety of line management positions in the electronics industry. His degrees in electronics engineering, computer science and business are from the University of Virginia.

Executive Biography

Mr. Dimitri P. Madouros has been with the World Sports Alliance (WSA) since its creation in 2007 and is the Senior Adviser to the President for Strategic Planning and Chief of Operations. WSA is an International Intergovernmental Organization (IGO) that seeks to use sport as a catalyst to implement social programs for at-risk youths worldwide in support of the U.N. Millennium Development Goals.

Prior to WSA, Mr. Madouros spent his career initiating and growing a series of successful start-ups in the Shipping, Textile, Specialty Oil, Community Banking, and Technology sectors.

Most recently, Mr. Madouros helped found and develop Pixlog.com, a Brazilian social networking site, which within a year of operations reached over two million visitors per month and served as the beta for LivelyUp.com, the communication portal for The World Sports Alliance.   

Prior to Pixlog.com, Mr. Madouros was one of the four founders of Interbank of New York, a de novo New York State Commercial Bank and served as a Director and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors from 1990-2004. The business was ultimately sold to a major European bank after growing to approximately $1.0 billion in assets.

Prior to Interbank, Mr. Madouros established Elf Aquitaine’s first permanent sales presence in the U.S. for marine lubricants. The agency relationship was the only independent agency in the ELF network and dealt exclusively with marine lubricating oils, and at its peak accounted for approximately 30% of ELF’s U.S. sales of marine lubricants.

Mr. Madouros began his career in the Shipping and Textile industries in various management positions. He received his BA with departmental honors from Hamilton College and his MBA, Beta Gamma Sigma, from St. John’s University. He was in the United States Army serving with the Infantry in Vietnam and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge.

Douglas Menelly is publishing his first book in 2010 entitled, "Lessons in Communication: A Study of the Integration of Western Business Philosophy and Chinese Culture."

Currently, Douglas serves as VP, Investor Relations & Communications, at SinoHub, Inc. (NYSE:SIHI), an electronic components company focused on Supply Chain Management (SCM) for the mobile phone industry in China and Southeast Asia.  He is responsible for corporate communications, and defining the firm's marketing and growth strategies. He coordinates the company's messaging at conferences, forums, earnings events, and shareholder meetings.  In 2006, he launched Asian operations for a US-based supply chain management firm, implementing Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs for Fortune 500 clients in Asia.  He has developed performance-based training programs in China, studied the evolution of cross-cultural management, and regularly lectures at Shenzhen University in China.  He has been a guest speaker at Chinese state-owned enterprise (SOE) conferences in Beijing.  He previously served as Vice President at Marsh and McLennan, a leading provider of advice and solutions in risk, strategy, and human capital. Prior, he founded Exband Systems, a wireless software firm offering RFID tracking and location solutions for people and products. He serves on the board of the Prostate Awareness Foundation (PAF). Douglas holds a BS in Engineering from the State University of New York (Buffalo), and a MS from the Polytechnic Institute at NYU.

R.P. Eddy is the founder and CEO of Ergo, an emerging markets strategy and geo-political intelligence firm which the Harvard Business Review recently praised as "breaking from industry orthodoxy with a radically new model."  He is also a founding partner of Northern Gulf Partners, the premier merchant bank focusing on Iraq. Previously, he was a Managing Director at the Gerson Lehrman Group and a Team Leader at Monitor Group.

Prior to entering the private sector, Eddy served in various posts in the US Government national security arena and as a United Nations Diplomat.  Eddy last served the UN as a Senior Policy Officer to the United Nations Secretary-General where he was one of the chief architects of the Global Fund to Prevent AIDS, TB, and Malaria, and was a group recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Prior to joining the UN, Eddy served variously as:

  • Director of Counterterrorism at the White House National Security Council (NSC);
  • Chief of Staff to the US Ambassador to the UN, Richard Holbrooke;
  • Senior Advisor for Intelligence and Counterterrorism to the Secretary of Energy;
  • Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations;
  • A US representative to international negotiations including the International Criminal Court and negotiations in Angola and Rwanda.

In 2001, Eddy was honored as one of 100 World Economic Forum (Davos) Global Leaders for Tomorrow. He is the co-chair of Los Angeles City Counterterrorism Committee. Eddy is a member of the Council of Foreign Relations and was selected by the Center for American Progress and Foreign Policy Magazine as one of "100 of America's most esteemed terrorism and national security experts." He is also a Senior Fellow at the Madison Policy Forum.

RP has testified in front of the U.S. Congress, regularly appears on global news stations and has been a commentator on PBS: Charlie Rose, Fox News, CBS, CNN, NPR, and many others. His writing has been published in The Times of London and other outlets. Eddy has a B.S in Neuroscience from Brown University.

Executive Biography
Dr. Howard V. Perlmutter, is a world authority and pioneer on the globalization of firms and other institutions. He is an internationally recognized teacher, scholar, advisor to corporations, cities and governments, and universities. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (Tau Beta Pi) from M.I.T., an Honorary Master's Degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. from the University of Kansas in Social Psychology.

He assumed his professorial post at Wharton in 1969, and served as Secretary of the Faculty of Wharton School. Currently he is an Emeritus Professor and Director of the Emerging Global Civilization project, where he teaches one course and conducts research on different aspects of our First Global Civilization and its implications for the transition to transformation of international organizations, including the UN, national governments, religious institutions, enterprises, cities and global leadership.

His paper The Multinational Firm and the Future, published in the Annals of Political and Social Science in 1972 accurately forecast the evolution of the viability and legitimacy issues for MNCs. In 1998-1999, the Financial Times published a four article series by Prof. Perlmutter on the MNC in the Emerging Global Civilization which drew up a scenario for the next thirty years which received worldwide attention and the need to develop a Global Civilization Mindset and Missing institutions and Networks to meet increasingly global challenges which range from those which are ecological such as renewable energy, ethnic and religious conflict, global terrorism with Weapons of Mass Destruction, and issues of Global regulation. A new version of this work on the Multinational Corporation is called The Tortuous Evolution of the Globally Civilized Enterprise in the 21st Century.

At Wharton, he led the internationalization process as Chairman of the Multinational Enterprise Unit and Founder-Director of the Worldwide Institutions Research Center. During this time with his colleague, the late Eric Trist, he formulated his vision the Social Architecture of the Global Societal enterprise, based on this paradigm for organizations in the 21st Century, now being applied to many other international organizations, nations and cities. At Wharton, he introduced research and teaching on the global social architecture of the multinational enterprise, multinational organization development, global strategic alliances, global cities, and the globalization of education, in a course called Cross cultural management in the context of the First Global Civilization.

He has served in professorial, lecturing and research posts in many countries. As a Fulbright Scholar at the Sorbonne, University of Paris, he introduced the study of group dynamics. Later, he served as Project Director of the International Communications Program at MIT's Center for International Studies. Other research and teaching areas and roles include Visiting Professor at the Stockholm School of Economics where he helped guide The Futures of Sweden study, and Professor at IMD in Switzerland where he pioneered Global Leadership learning through (PMF) Personal and Managerial Feedback Groups.

He has been listed Who's Who in the World. He is a Fellow of the Academy of International Business, and the Academy of International Management and a Commissioner on Globalization in the State of the World Forum led by Mikhail Gorbachev.   He has served as an Advisor to Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji, Pope John Paul II, the Finnish Government regarding the globalization of their industry, and the City of Paris regarding Paris as a global city, and was a visiting professor at the Stockholm School of Economics.  He has also published two books of poetry: An Indefinite Reprieve (1984) and West East Duet: Visions of Ithaca, Not Quite Haiku (2004).

Martin Gilman is Professor of Economics at the National Research University — Higher School of Economics and the Director of its Centre for Advanced Studies, in conjunction with the New Economic School, in Moscow.  Previously he was with the International Monetary Fund for 24 years where he was assistant director in the IMF’s policy department.  In his last position before taking early retirement in late 2005 to join HSE in Moscow, he was responsible for sovereign debt issues and was the IMF’s representative to the Paris Club.  His extensive experience with Russia began as the adviser from the policy department on the negotiating missions from June 1993, and then he moved to Russia in November 1996 as the director of the IMF’s Moscow Office.  Along with his close involvement in the Russian economy and policy issues for over 17 years, he is married to Russian journalist, Tatiana Malkina.

In addition to his Ph.D from the London School of Economics, Gilman attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, the Institut d’Etudes Politiques, Paris, and the School of Advanced International Studies of the John Hopkins University.

He has authored a number of publications including, The National Treatment of Foreign Investments (1994); Brazilian Diplomatic History from 1912 to 1964 (2001); and Brazilian Diplomatic History from 1964 to 1985 (2006).  He currently working on the next volume on Brazil’s diplomatic history.

Bhaskar Chakravorti joined The Fletcher School at Tufts University in January 2011 as the Senior Associate Dean for International Business and Finance and Executive Director of Fletcher’s International Business Center and the Center for Emerging Markets Enterprises (CEME), a global hub for emerging thinking on emerging markets.  Bhaskar also serves on the Fletcher faculty as Professor of Practice in International Business.  Prior to Fletcher, he was a Partner of McKinsey & Company and a Distinguished Scholar at MIT’s Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship.  He also served on the faculty of the Harvard Business School and the Harvard University Center for the Environment.  As a leader of McKinsey's Innovation and Global Forces practices, he served on the Firm’s Knowledge Services Committee, which oversaw McKinsey's 1,200 person global research network.  Bhaskar has advised CEOs, Boards and senior management in multiple industries (high technology, health and consumer care and cleantech), policy makers and non-profits on innovation, growth and new business-building.  In a 20+ year career as consultant and educator, he has advised over 30 companies in the Fortune 500, policy-makers, investors and entrepreneurs. Mr. Smith is most recently a Founder and President of Global Emerging Technologies and an Advisor to Bio180 Solutions.  Prior he was a Director of Private Equity for Deutsche Bank Asset Management in New York City, London, and Silicon Valley, where he was responsible for Private Equity investments and taking an active role in the strategic development and investment exits of the portfolio companies. He has more than 18 years of successful global Private Equity and Venture Capital experience in deal origination, structured financing and placement and team management.  Managed and helped build out Private Equity teams.  He previously held executive positions at Deutsche Bank, Global Emerging Markets, Gerald Energy (Man Group) and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.  Mr. Smith has an MBA in Finance and International Business from University of Miami School of Business a BA in Social Anthropology from Eckerd College and post graduate studies at Universidad Granada, Span and Universitat Salzburg, Austria.  He has been a special guest at the World Bank IMF annual meetings.  He currently is active in Global Sustainability Initiatives with various Sovereign Wealth Funds as well as the United Nations High-Level Panel on Global Sustainability and a Board member of the Global Sustainability Group  Katerva.org.  Geographical project work has included MENA, GCC Hong Kong, Brazil and Europe.


Oscar Plotkin has been in the real estate development and finance business since 1978. During his tenure in the business, he founded Berkshire development in 1990 which became a national single tenant net lease and shopping center development companies, with developments from Chicago to Ocala Florida. He was also a principal in numerous structured finance transactions.

Mr. Plotkin made investments in other areas, such beach restoration and bio remediation compounds. Over the last four years he sold the development company and, since that time, his efforts have been exclusively devoted to the development of the patents and trade secrets that he acquired, which comprise the nucleus of Bio 180 solutions.  Having performed extensive testing during the past five years in the Nation's most venerable laboratories, Mr. Plotkin has proven the efficacy of the IP of a varied array of compounds, and has assembled a company dedicated to the commercialization and advancement of the technology. Mr. Plotkin is a Graduate of Georgetown University, where he received a Masters Degree in English literature, with a concentration in Shakespeare. He was a principal player at Georgetown's classical theater. He was a Gubernatorial appointee to the Judicial Conduct Commission, and has served on numerous boards throughout his career.  Mr. Plotkin has been a serious runner for years. He was ranked in the 24th percentile in North America by Ultra Running Magazine for the 100 mile distance.  He has three children and resides in New York, New York.

Wynne Rumpeltin joined State Street in 2009 as the Vice President of Sovereign Risk Management. Wynne focuses on analyzing and monitoring country risk and on assessing new markets. She previously worked at Eurasia Group, a political and economic risk consulting firm, and as a management consultant at A.T. Kearney where she focused on international strategy, off-shoring assessments and new market entry.

Wynne has a BA in international relations from Brown University, an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an MA in international relations and economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).

Wynne has a BA in international relations from Brown University, an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an MA in international relations and economics from the John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).


Talinn Demirjian joined State Street in June 2009 and is currently a Vice President on the Sovereign Risk Management team. Talinn focuses on analyzing and monitoring country risk based on political, economic, legal and regulatory factors. Talinn previously worked as an international equity trader, including at ABN-Amro, a Dutch investment bank, and at Liberty Square Asset Management, a hedge fund concentrating on international equity and foreign exchange markets.

Talinn has a BA in international relations and economics from Tufts University, and an MA in international business and political economy from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.

Mr. Ed Morata was appointed Chief of Staff to the CEO at Sovereign Bank in 2010. He is also a member of the SHUSA Management Executive Committee (MEC).  Mr. Morata has more than 20 years experience in financial services. He joined the Santander Group in 1996. Most recently, he was Santander’s Chief Executive for Asia in Hong Kong. Previously he held a number of executive management positions including: Head of Asset Management and Private Banking in Brazil and Head of Banespa’s International Department when it was acquired by Santander in 2001.  Mr. Morata was also a member of the Executive Committee of Santander Brazil. Before joining Santander, Mr. Morata worked for a number of financial institutions including American Express, ING and Citibank.

In this role, he oversees productivity and top-line growth strategies to create sustainable solutions vital to a variety of business platforms.  DuPont’s innovative business improvement process has resulted in $ 2 billion in growth and $5 billion in savings to the company, touching over 90% of the firm’s 25,000 employees. In his discussion at Fletcher Don reviewed how Six Sigma impacts the global supply chain infrastructure, bringing manufacturing to life from strategic, management, leadership, and technological perspectives; exploring DuPont’s strategy of sustainable growth from a cyclical chemical company to a dynamic life sciences company using Six Sigma and its multi-disciplinary approach.

As vice president – business process excellence and corporate Six Sigma champion, Don has global responsibility for the deployment of Six Sigma into all of the DuPont businesses. DuPont started their Six Sigma journey, corporately, in 1999 and Don is the first and only Champion for the Corporation. He led the development of Six Sigma from a cost reduction program, through a productivity effort, evolving to a top line growth strategy, to finally a business improvement process. DuPont has validated over $5 billion in Six Sigma benefits from this initiative.  Prior to his current appointment in 1999, Don had several business responsibilities at DuPont. He led the Industrial Nylon business during a time of transformation to a truly global enterprise. He was then appointed the Managing Director of European Lycra®, and ran that business while living in Geneva, Switzerland. Subsequently, he was CEO of two wholly owned subsidiary companies of DuPont.  Don came to DuPont in 1984 with the acquisition of Exxon Enterprise Materials Division, where he was the leader of a high tech materials business. In 2006, Don co-authored a book entitled : The Six Sigma Fieldbook, How DuPont Successfully Implemented the Six Sigma Breakthrough Management Strategy.  He has been an industry spokesperson regarding Six Sigma having keynoted several international conferences.

Being a risk manager today requires complex skills, especially in light of recent regulatory changes and uncertainties.  What are the trade-offs, challenges and rewards as a risk manager working in a custodian bank, handling and carrying large cash balances on behalf of pension funds, sovereign wealth funds and other strategic financial customers?  Assessing counterparty risk, limit setting, implementing Basel II & III capital requirements…these are just some of  the important risk management competencies used inside State Street which plays a strategic role in the securities industry as the provider of liquidity to the big broker dealers.   In their presentation, Paul Sassieni and Aileen Barbiellini Amidei, took Fletcher on a panoramic view of State Street’s enterprise risk management function into the granular details of their day-to-day world. Attendees were able to see how this all translated into career opportunities for Fletcher international business graduate students. 

Paul Sassieni is Senior Vice President in the Enterprise Risk Management division of State Street and directs the counterparty credit approval function for State Street Global Markets and Global Treasury. He serves as the Senior Credit Approver for State Street Global Markets’ FX trading, Fixed Income, Futures Clearing and Securities Finance businesses globally. Mr. Sassieni manages a team of other credit approvers in Boston and London that support these businesses. 

Paul Sassieni’s expertise is primarily within capital markets credit risk management across a variety of business lines including foreign exchange, fixed income derivatives, credit derivatives, structured debt transactions and securitization. Mr. Sassieni has been with State Street for four years and was previously in a variety of risk management and business origination roles at Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, FleetBoston Financial and NatWest Bank in the UK.  Mr. Sassieni also spent some time in the not-for-profit sector where he was the Executive Vice President of Harvard Hillel.  His global experience spans North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia.  Mr. Sassieni is a member of State Street’s Counterparty and Country Risk Committee and is a member of the Risk Management Association’s Market Risk Board.  In addition to his responsibilities at State Street, Mr. Sassieni is the Treasurer of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston.


Aileen Barbiellini Amidei manages the Financial Institutions Analysis team within the Enterprise Risk Management division of State Street.  The Analysis team, which is comprised of six full-time credit analysts covering banks, broker-dealers, municipalities, and sovereigns worldwide, supports State Street’s Network Management, Treasury, and Global Markets activities, including foreign exchange, fixed income, futures clearing, and securities lending.

Ms. Barbiellini Amidei has over ten years of financial services experience, the last four of which have been in counterparty credit risk management. She returned to State Street in 2009 after a 2.5 year stint as Senior Credit Analyst at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, where she supported the money market and derivative activities of the bank’s Treasury department. She currently covers large US and UK banks as well as major broker-dealers and hedge funds.

Ms. Barbiellini Amidei obtained her Management Economics degree from Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines) and graduate certificate in International Business and Strategy from Helsinki University of Technology. She has been a CFA charterholder since 2007 and is a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society.

David Puth is an executive vice president in charge of State Street's Global Markets businesses. Mr. Puth is also a member of State Street's Management Committee, the company's senior-most strategy and policy making team.

State Street Global Markets includes the company’s investment research, securities finance and trading activities worldwide. State Street provides specialized investment research and trading to institutional investors across foreign exchange, equities and fixed income, and is a global leader in the securities lending industry. State Street is also one of the world's largest foreign exchange dealers for institutional clients and a major provider of execution services for foreign exchange through its E-Exchange platforms.

From 1988 through 2007, Mr. Puth worked for JPMorgan Chase, where he was a member of the company's Executive Group. In 2007, Mr. Puth founded the Eriska Group, an investment advisory and risk management consulting firm, where he worked until joining State Street in August of 2008.

Mr. Puth is a member of the board of the Robin Hood Foundation, one of the country's leading voices in the fight against poverty that focuses its efforts on the City of New York. Mr. Puth is also a trustee of the Berkshire School, a preparatory school in Sheffield, Massachusetts, and a member of the board of the Institute for Global Leadership at Tufts University.
