Applying to Graduate

Applying to Graduate

All Fletcher students must apply to graduate through SIS by the Registrar's Office imposed deadline the final semester of their Fletcher program. Students who plan on using their CNC semester to continue working on degree requirements past their expected graduation date should still apply to graduate through SIS. Failure to do so by the deadline may result in an inability to graduate and/or march during the May graduation ceremony.

Please follow the below step by step instructions to apply to graduate through SIS.

1) Log into SIS (go.tufts.edu/SIS)

2) Select APPLY FOR GRADUATION from the ACADEMICS menu.

3) Click on APPLY FOR GRADUATION.

4) Select the Expected Graduation Term.

5) Click CONTINUE.

6) Click SUBMIT APPLICATION.

7) Return to APPLY FOR GRADUATION under ACADEMICS menu.

8) Select VIEW GRADUATION STATUS.

9) Fill out information.

10) Click SAVE.

When all steps have been completed, your name will be added to the degree candidate list. After applying for graduation, you may monitor your graduation status via SIS. You will remain in APPLIED status until a few weeks before graduation. Once grades have been submitted,, your status will be changed to APPROVED or ELIGIBLE TO MARCH. If you are not eligible to march or graduate, your petition status will be DENIED (you are eligible to apply to graduate in a future semester) or WITHDRAWN (you will need to reinstate to complete degree requirements).

If you do not complete all degree requirements by your expected graduation date, and your status is set to DENIED or ELIGIBLE TO MARCH, you will need to re-apply to graduate at the end of your CNC semester.
Grad Ceremony Marching Policy

MALD and MIB Students

MALD and MIB students with more than two of the below graduation requirements outstanding may not participate in the May graduation ceremony:

  • the completion/recording of a course grade (Fletcher and/or non-Fletcher)
  • the Capstone Project requirement. Please note that if your Capstone Project is tied to a course/independent study and your Capstone Project is not finished by the degree deadline, then your outstanding Capstone Project and missing course grade (assuming the Capstone Project is the final for the course) count for two outstanding degree requirements.
  • the language requirement (both written and oral must be passed for completion)

MA and LLM Students

MA and LLM students with one of the below graduation requirements outstanding may not participate in the May graduation ceremony:

  • the completion/recording of a course grade (Fletcher or non-Fletcher)
  • the Capstone Project requirement. Please note that if your Capstone Project is tied to a course/independent study and your Capstone Project is not finished by the degree deadline, then your outstanding Capstone Project and missing course grade (assuming the Capstone Project is the final for the course) count for two outstanding degree requirements.
  • the language requirement (both written and oral must be passed for completion)
  • for LLM Candidates only: participation in the "high table" colloquiums

All students who are eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony, regardless of graduating status, will wear academic robes, have their name printed in the Commencement bulletin, and be called on stage by name to receive congratulations of the Dean. Students who are not receiving a diploma will receive an empty box rather than one with a diploma in it.
