The ceremony will include: the entrance processional; Dean’s welcome; songs by the Ambassachords; alumni greeting by Lis Tarlow (F84, F97), Chair of the Board of Trustees, Boston Museum of Fine Arts and member of The Fletcher School Board of Advisors; presentation of the Alumni First Ten Award to José Luis Stein (F08), presentation of the Fletcher Administrator of the Year Award, presentation of the Robert B. Stewart Prize to an outstanding first year student; presentation of the Edmund A. Gullion Prize to an outstanding second year student; presentation of the Leo Gross Law Prize; presentation of the Peter Ackerman award for the outstanding doctoral dissertation; presentation of class gifts; award of the Dean’s medal to Richard Engel, Chief Foreign Affairs correspondent for NBC News; and keynote address by Richard Engel.

7:30am Class of 2017 Champagne Breakfast and Toasts Assemble in Blakeley Courtyard in cap and gown (For all members of the Class of 2017)
8:30am Members of the Class of 2017 assemble on walkway by Mugar Hall. (Note: Cap and Gown required to participate in the All-University Commencement Ceremony)
8:45am The Goddard Chapel bells ring to signal the Phase I Academic Procession will begin.
9:00am Phase 1: 161st Tufts All-University Commencement Ceremony -Lawn outside Ballou Hall
(For all members of the Class of 2017, guests, alumni, and Fletcher community members)

Ceremony includes the academic processional, the awarding of degrees by Schools including the official award of the Fletcher degree, the awarding of honorary degrees, and the All-University Commencement address by Kenya Barris, award winning television writer, creator, director, showrunner, executive producer, and feature film screenwriter.

Paddock prize for excellence in teaching to a member of the faculty selected by the students, address by the Paddock award recipient, the individual awarding of Fletcher diplomas and PhD hooding, recessional.

*The Class of 2017 includes both graduating students who will march and receive degrees and those who are members of the class but who have not yet completed all degree requirements. Members of the Class of 2017 who will not receive degrees are still encouraged to march in the Saturday Class Day ceremony as well as the All University Commencement (Phase 1) on Sunday morning. During Phase 2, Fletcher Commencement (11:15 on Sunday), only those who will be receiving their degree or have permission are able to march. Permission to march without completing all degree requirements is as follows: For those in the MA or LLM degree programs, no more than one degree requirement can be outstanding. For those in the MALD or MIB degree programs, no more than two degree requirements can be outstanding.
