Each year the OCS organizes career events to help students meet
employers and alumni working in many of the fields of interest to
Fletcher students. Events include career trips to New York and
Washington DC as well as local Boston events. Events usually include
employer site visits, industry panels and alumni receptions. Classes
are cancelled so that all students who wish to participate are free to
do so. Students are responsible for their own travel and accommodations
and typically 150 to 200 students participate in each event.
Student Alumni Career Exploration – SACE takes place in
November. A one day event with panels, alumni lunches and an evening
reception. Student clubs are also encouraged to organize their own
mini-career trips to visit locations/employers of interest to their club
members, taking advantage of classes being cancelled during SACE.
New York, NY - the New York Career Trip takes place in early
January with a focus on the UN. A one day event with alumni panels,
alumni lunches and visits with specific UN groups.
Washington DC - the Washington DC Career Trip takes place in
February. A sampling of the site visits in February 2012 included PFC
Energy, World Wildlife Fund, USAID, IREX, the World Bank, Department of
Energy, Save the Children and Brookings Institution. A sampling of the
panels included Policy Research, Humanitarian Assistance/Human Rights,
International Trade & Commerce, International Development and
Conflict Resolution.
