    The Fletcher School is pleased to welcome Thom Shanker, F'82 to campus on Thursday, October 25th as a Geoffrey and Cyrena Fink Distinguished Alumni Speaker. During the lunchtime conversation, Thom will share his professional experiences since Fletcher, and answer your questions. Thom Shanker is an assistant Washington editor for The Times, who joined the editing ranks in 2014 after serving for 13 years as a correspondent covering the Pentagon, the military and national security.He is also an author, with Eric Schmitt, of “Counterstrike: The Untold Story of America’s Secret Campaign Against Al Qaeda,” published in August 2011 by Henry Holt & Company. The book became a New York Times best seller. Mr. Shanker's vast experience includes has covering wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, former YugoSlavia. He spent five years as The Tribune's Moscow correspondent, covering from the start of the Gorbachev era to the the death of the U.S.S.R. and the collapse of the communist empire in Eastern Europe.He also serves as a nonresident senior fellow at the Edward R. Murrow Center for a Digital World at the school. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear about life after Fletcher.
