Since 2012, the annual Fletcher Arctic Conference has provided a forum to address the implications of an opening Arctic. Past conferences have paid particular attention to the diverse environmental, cultural, and scientific challenges posed by the changing Arctic, drawing upon the insights of conference speakers including President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson of Iceland, then-U.S. Senator John Kerry, and Ambassador Mark Brzezinski. In 2016, the Fletcher Arctic Conference convened more than 200 participants from diverse backgrounds to engage on key Arctic issues.
