    Trump: Trade & Tirade

    3:30 PM – 5:00 PM

President Trump's strong aversion to trade deals and an overarching protectionist foreign policy outlook has seen the US withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The TPP was largely seen as an Obama administrative initiative to pivot more towards Asia. It was viewed as a US-backed initiative to counter China's growing trade influence in the region. - So, has the US scored an own goal by backing out from a deal that would make 40% of the global trade economy? - What would this mean for U.S businesses looking to expand in the region? - Does this put China in a more robust position? All pertinent questions, the answers will be provided by our esteemed panelists - three of Fletcher's finest professors and our guest panelist from the Harvard Kennedy School (HKS). Panelists: - Joel Trachtman, Professor of International Law, Fletcher School - Patrick Schena, Adjunct Assistant Professor of International Business Relations, Fletcher School - Professor Rockford Weitz, Professor of Practice, Entrepreneur Coach, and Director of the Fletcher Maritime Studies Program - Robert Lawrence, Albert L Williams Professor of International Trade and Investment, Harvard Kennedy School Moderated by: Akshobh Giridharadas, Co-Chair, ASEAN Club.
