This conversation is one of a four-part series this semester at the Fares Center, highlighting community members' experiences and work in the region. Frank Sobchak and Karim Elkady will delve into current public debates about U.S. involvement in Iraq. Mr. Sobchak will argue that strategic defeat was not pre-disposed, but rather a byproduct of a series of decisions throughout the conflict whose combined effects ultimately doomed American efforts. Mr. Elkady will argue that an opportunity existed for the U.S. to succeed in Iraq, but that flawed working assumptions, misguided decisions, and unwillingness to carry out major state-building tasks led to mission failure. Please note that this event will be off the record.
