The Fletcher School is proud to welcome Admiral Dennis Blair to present the General John R. Galvin Lecture on Tuesday, September 12th. Admiral Blair is currently Chairman of the Board and Distinguished Senior Fellow (Non-Resident) of Sasakawa Peace Foundation, USA. From January 2009 to May 2010, Admiral Blair was Director of National Intelligence and led sixteen intelligence agencies and provided integrated intelligence support to the President, Congress, and operations in the field. During his 34-year Navy career, he served on guided missile destroyers in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets and commanded the Kitty Hawk Battle Group. Prior to retiring from the Navy in 2002, Blair served as Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Command, the largest of the combatant commands.
The Galvin Lecture was established in honor of the late General Jack Galvin, Dean of The Fletcher School from 1995-2000. General Galvin was the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO at the most dramatic moment in its history – the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. He is remembered as a brilliant military strategist with a fondness for Yeats.
