  2. “Has the American Economy Become Too Complacent?” Guest talk by Tyler Cowen

    4:00 PM – 5:30 PM

    Tyler Cowen holds the Holbert C. Harris Chair of Economics at George Mason University and directs the university’s Mercatus Center and James M. Buchanan Center for Political Economy. He has authored several books, including The Great Stagnation: How America Ate All the Low-hanging Fruit of Modern History, Got Sick, and Will (Eventually) Feel Better (2011), and Average Is Over: Powering American beyond the Age of the Great Stagnation (2014), and, most recently, The Complacent Class: The Self-defeating Quest for the American Dream (2016). He co-writes the Marginal Revolution blog with Alex Tabarrok and has been published in a number of economics journals as well as in the popular economics press, including for The New York Times, Forbes, Newsweek, and The Washington Post. Dr. Cowen’s remarks will be followed by a reception in the Cabot Lounge, located in the basement of the Cabot building.
