    Yukio Okamoto: Japan and its Neighbors: Is Reconciliation Possible?

    Yukio OKAMOTO, a former Special Advisor to two Prime Ministers of Japan, is the President of Okamoto Associates and a Robert E. Wilhelm Fellow at MIT. From 1968 to 1991 Mr. Okamoto was a career diplomat in Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    For over 30 years, Ambassador Murphy’s pursuits have included a highly successful business career, leadership of a range of philanthropic and community organizations, a central role in New Jersey and national Democratic party politics, and service to his country as US Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, for which he was appointed by President Obama and served from 2009 until 2013.

    Please join the Fletcher Seminar on International Conflict for a lecture by Professor Shai Feldman. Shai Feldman is the Judith and Sidney Swartz Director of the Crown Center for Middle East Studies and Professor of Politics at Brandeis University. Professor Feldman is also a Senior Fellow and a member of the Board of Directors of Harvard University’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, where he serves as Co-Chair of the Middle East Security Project. From 1997-2005, he was Head of the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies at Tel Aviv University, and also served as a member of the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters from 2001 to 2003.

    The Curse of a Holy Land: Negotiating Visions for Palestine and the Palestinians

    Please join the Fletcher Seminar on International Conflict for a lecture by Professor Beshara Doumani. Beshara Doumani is the Joukowsky Family Professor of Modern Middle East History and Director of Middle East Studies at Brown University. He works on the social, economic, and legal history of Eastern Mediterranean. Doumani is also a public intellectual who writes on current events in the Middle East, on the ethics of knowledge production, and on the relationship between culture and politics. He led a team that produced a strategic plan for the establishment of a Palestinian museum, and recently received the Sawyer Seminar award from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for his proposal, “Displacement and the Making of the Modern World: Histories, Ecologies, and Subjectivities.”
