    IGL Student Group Speaker Series on Migration: Beyond the US-Mexican Border

    This presentation will challenge prevailing myths about migration south of the U.S. border. By tracing the difficult and dangerous journey facing migrants from Central America, Haiti, and elsewhere who must cross Mexico to get to the US border, it will seek to humanize the migrants while shining a critical light on the restrictive and security-oriented migration policies currently in place.

    John Holdren: "Why the Wafflers are Wrong: Addressing Climate Change is Urgent (and a Bargain)"

    After a quick review of key fundamentals of climate-change science, this presentation offers a breakdown of climate-change contrarians into three categories — deniers, wafflers and advocates of surrender — and argues that the wafflers are becoming the most numerous as well as the biggest obstacles to policy progress. It then draws on the latest findings from science and integrated assessments to expose the main flaws in the positions of each group, giving most attention to the wafflers.

    Is the Liberal World Order Ending? The 33rd Annual Norris and Margery Bendetson EPIIC International Symposium

    7:00 PM – 10:00 PM

    The international symposium is an annual public forum designed and enacted by EPIIC students. It features international practitioners, academics, public intellectuals, activists and journalists who come to Tufts each year for three days of discussion and debate in panels and small-group discussions determined by students in the EPIIC course. The Boston Globe made this assessment of the EPIIC Symposium: “At a time when the national discourse seems forever reduced to its lowest common denominator…to sound bites and slogans…EPIIC is a refreshing antidote. Far from looking to simplify the world, the symposium aims to teach students to view life in a way that respects complex human systems.”

    IBGC Speaker Series Lecture - Christian Baccheimer (Chairman, Polycore Optical)

    Join The Institute for Business in the Global Context for a talk with Christian Baccheimer (F17), as he discusses the following: "International Joint Venture: Lessons from a Short Lifespan JV." Christian Baccheimer has worked in South East Asia for the past 27 years, heading various companies that belong to the largest conglomerate in Indonesia. One of them was Polycore Optical until its strategic divestment in January 2018. His focus has been on strategic turnaround, and greenfield operations. He holds London Business School's Sloan Masters (MSc) in Leadership and Strategy, Edinburgh Business School's MBA and Southern Cross University's DBA in Australia. He recently completed his M.A. in International Relations at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
