The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development or "Rio+20" offered a major opportunity to take forward the sustainable development agenda. By tracing the language of the outcome document The Future We Want to previous international agreements, this brief brings together some of the key highlights of what was achieved at Rio. While the majority of the language is reiteration of previously agreed commitments, The Future We Want does provide some basis to further strengthen sustainable development at various levels.
