A meaningful project I worked on:
Prior to Fletcher I worked in the consumer products industry in South Africa as a marketing manager on SABMiller and Unilever brands that were primarily consumed by consumers at the base of the pyramid. A significant part of my role involved immersing myself into consumers' daily lives, and I gained a good understanding of their socio-economic situation, their hopes and their dreams not only for themselves, but for their children. This got me interested in two areas: corporate social responsibility and education and their role in international development.
While at Fletcher I've explored the various ways in which the private sector can innovate and partner with governments, non-profits and multilateral agencies, to help increase access and quality in the education sector, particularly in low income communities. This summer I will be a Graduate Fellow with Education Pioneers, where I will be consulting for a leading education organization in the Greater Boston area and participating in leadership development workshops that examine complex urban education issues and system reform.
Global Issue that brought you to Fletcher:
The need to change perceptions about Africa and have a better spread of content shown in global media about the continent so that it’s not only the stories of war and poverty that are shown, but also the success stories.
