Dean's Video: October 2014: Dr. ElBaradei, Nobel-Laureate-in-Residence
This month, The Fletcher School welcomes a very distinguished visitor -- Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei, director general emeritus of the International Atomic Energy Association (IAEA), who will serve as the school's Nobel-Laureate-in-Residence for the Fall 2014 semester. In this role, Dr. ElBaradei will conduct both small meetings and large lectures drawing on the lessons of his 50-year career as a scholar, diplomat, public servant and statesman. Dr. ElBaradei is the recipient of the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize, along with the IAEA, for their work helping to ensure the safe, non-military use of nuclear energy.
In this interview, Dean Stavridis asks Dr. ElBaradei to share some ideas for helping to bring the work of academics to policymakers and practitioners working in the international sphere, and to discuss what he hopes to accomplish during his time at Fletcher. The school was recently awarded $1 million from the Carnegie Corporation of New York to support innovative programs help bridge the gap between the academy and policymakers.
