Why I chose Fletcher: After all the tests, applications and research, at the end of the day I realized that the Fletcher community wanted me as much as I wanted it. That give and take and the knowledge that the second I arrived I was going to be fully immersed in a culture of students and faculty that is as receptive and open as it is dynamic and intelligent made my final decision an easy one.
On campus life: Being away from college for a couple of years made me idealize the kind of environment that Fletcher would be. I thought that the image in my head—interesting conversations springing out of nowhere, in the library, a hallway or the café—had to be false. However, in the time I have been here these conversations have been too numerous to count, and every day I show up on campus I know I’m more than likely to have another.
How I plan to use my experience at Fletcher to make a difference in the world: With the rise of corporate social responsibility, a lot of people are paying lip service to sustainable business practices, but there are still far too few business leaders who truly understand what that means, especially on a global scale. Far too many in industry view the future with the idea that consequences that might not occur for 20 years (when discount rates have nullified their impact) are hardly worth considering. I believe that my Fletcher education will allow me to enter the business world with knowledge of not only how global business, political, and environmental systems interact, but how they can best be structured for the future betterment of all.
