The Fletcher School

A Graduate School of International Affairs

2008-09 Student Profiles

Mabel Ntiru, MALD 2010, Uganda

Why I chose Fletcher: I chose Fletcher for several reasons: the diverse community, flexible curriculum, and impressive faculty. However, what attracted me most to the school was the passion and enthusiasm of Fletcher alumni. Everyone I spoke to went out of their way to answer my questions and tell me why Fletcher was the best option. Their passion was infectious, and it spoke volumes about the quality of the program.

On the curriculum: The flexibility of the Fletcher curriculum allows me to study an issue from several angles and develop a more nuanced and integrated perspective. At the moment, I am researching policies around Internet access in sub-Saharan Africa, and the courses I'm taking allow me to address the relevant legal, economic and political consequences. The Fletcher curriculum is designed to push students to make connections across disciplines, which makes for a far richer understanding and analysis.

My plans for my international life after Fletcher: Post-Fletcher, I hope to enter a career where I can manage and promote media and communications that spur more development and investment in Africa. I find the Office of Career Services and the Fletcher alumni network to be great resources in helping me move towards this goal.
