2008-09 Student Profiles

Martin Furlong, MA 2009, Argentina

Why I chose Fletcher: Every day at Fletcher can make a difference. I may attend a class and identify the latest trends in law, diplomacy or economics. I may join a study group and develop a new perspective on the relationship between law and economic growth in Latin America. I may go to a conference and address an important question on nonprofit management with experts of leading organizations. I may have lunch with faculty and other mid-careers and discover an innovative idea to conduct research more efficiently. I may perform the role of a consultant in a multimedia case and learn state-of-the-art approaches to teaching.

On the flexibility of the curriculum: I enjoy being at The Fletcher School. I am having the most fruitful mid-career experience. The Master of Arts program is doing an excellent job of adding invaluable interdisciplinary knowledge to my academic and professional background in international affairs. With its flexible curriculum, I can design my own program by selecting courses from Fletcher’s three divisions.
